FAQ
- Q: Can I buy a handgun without a permit?
A: Yes. The FBI National Instant Check System (NICS) instant background check is done when you buy any gun. There is no waiting period.
- Q: Do you do written appraisals of guns for insurance purposes?
A: Yes. We can't give even an approximate value of your gun(s) over the phone, however. The cost for appraisals varies depending on the size of the collection. Please give us a call to discuss specifics.
- Q: How can you sell silencers? I thought they were illegal.
A: Nope! Dealers with the proper Federal licensing can sell silencers (properly called sound suppressors) to anyone who can legally own a firearm. The process requires additional paperwork, fingerprints, and a signature from the Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) where you live. The paperwork and $200 tax are sent to BATFE, where a rigorous FBI background check is done on you. If you pass, in 30-90 days your tax stamp will come back and you can come pick up your new suppressor.
- Q: My brother-in-law says the Marines gave him his M4 when he got out of the service, and they gave him a federal license for it because he was a Marine.
A: Your brother-in-law is lying.
- Q: I bought this gun for $800 from ***'S, and I've never shot it. Why did you only offer me $375 on a trade?
To answer this question completely, you have to understand a few things about the gun business. Legally, guns are considered to be used once they pass from the first dealer's hands to the first consumer - and it doesn't matter if you fired it or not.
Also - consider that we sell that same gun for $550. And, if we buy YOUR gun, we have to sell it for less than we would sell a new one of the same model. So - in order for the trade to be worthwhile for us, we have to be able to make a little something on your gun when we sell it...so we need to pay YOU less than what we can sell it for - and used models of your gun are right here in our display case for $425.
Check around with any other dealer in town - if they offer you a better trade than we do, bring your receipt back in and we'll give you $10 for your trouble.
Policies:
Layaway: 20% down, balance in 45 days. If you have not contacted us in 45 days, your deposit will not be refunded.
Consignments: Our standard fee for consignment is 10%.
Satisfaction: We will work with you to ensure you get what you need the first time - but remember, firearms are like cars: once they are sold, they are legally considered used EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT FIRED THEM. That means once the NICS check is done and you leave the store with the firearm, it is then worth its USED value. We aren't trying to be difficult - we ARE trying to make a living :-)
Carrying firearms in Elmore's is OK - but please, don't unholster without talking to a staff member FIRST.
Smoking is permitted - we have an air filtration system in place and we apologize if it bothers you.
